While all of our anesthesiology positions are advanced, we offer up to 14 preferred internship positions (i.e., these locations are only for people who agree with our program) at Mercy Medical Center/University of Maryland (www.mercyresidency.org/), Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital (www.lifebridgehealth.org/sinaibody.cfm?id=79), or MedStar Union Memorial Hospital (MedStarhealth.org/mhim). These are preliminary annual training programs in internal medicine. From year to year, the above programs may not offer internships, and the rotation schedule of the above programs may not systematically include requirements for the clinical base year. Q: Are there any other requirements for international medical graduates? A: International applicants must be ECFMG certified before the end of the interview season (end of January). All international applicants must have excellent written and spoken English skills. Letters of recommendation should include at least one letter from a physician who directly supervised the applicant in an important clinical placement such as internal medicine, surgery, or pediatrics, and if available, letters from U.S.-trained physicians are especially helpful. The goal is to produce outstanding anesthesiologists and clinical settings who also have additional specialties in areas such as global health, medical education, quality improvement/management/informatics, combined training in pediatrics and anesthesia, combined training in internal medicine and anesthesia, additional training in certain clinical subspecialties or research under the FARM program. The department offers 25 training positions in clinical anesthesiology each year. We do not have an integrated internship. All of our positions are advanced, but we have a close relationship with the internal medicine programs at Mercy Medical Center/University of Maryland and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. As with any internship program that chooses an appropriate physician assistant, he or she will spend this year (Clinical Base Year, CBY) and then begin clinical anesthesia training at Johns Hopkins in July of the PGY2 year. Residents are encouraged to alternate 1 month from CBY to Johns Hopkins if logistically feasible.

A: To be competitive, USMLE values must be at least 225 on the first attempt and ideally above 230. Older medical students can apply for a four-year residency at MUSC under the National Residency Match Program (SRSP) using the ERAS system. Action-based statements that specify observable behaviour should also include time-specific milestones and progressive levels of responsibility for trainees. .
